Indigo Moon Ketubah (handmade collage or archival print)

from $550.00

Minimal and sophisticated. This piece is set up as a diptych with text on the left side of the page and image. On the right side of the page, a hand-dyed indigo orb is collaged* upon a delicate white or cream page of plant based paper that lay on a white page of paper. Below the collaged pages, a line of text reads the phrase “I am my beloved’s and my beloved is mine” in English and Hebrew.

*Note as of March 2023: I am beginning to offer a printed version of this piece. It will look nearly the same as the handmade collaged indigo version but the elements will be printed in archival inks onto cotton rag art paper, rather than dyed and collaged onto the page. I am happy to offer a version this piece at a lower pricepoint to make it accessible to more of my clients.

Text choice is up to you: Hebrew, English or otherwise. Signature lines can be done with titles or slash lines to keep it very minimal (see thumbnail examples).

To complete your order, once you make your purchase, please fill in the ketubah survey and submit.

Please allow 10+ weeks from order date to ship date for the handmade version and 6+ weeks for the archival printed version.

Shipping notice: as shipping prices vary widely based on numerous factors, shipping costs will be invoiced at the end of the project rather than charged upfront.

Size of the entire page: 14” x 22”

Interpretations of "Indigo Moon":

All of the elements in the following explanation have to do with the actual process of working with Indigo natural dyes:

WATER | EARTH | FLORA

WATER
Kabbalah, Jewish mysticism, explains that water and liquids enact three key mannerisms:
1) Adhering 2) Conveying 3) Fluidity

Water is an adhesive that transforms: dirt becomes a clay pot and flour becomes bread. Water binds that which was many into a cohesive whole.

Water is a conveyer: rivers and streams carry life and hold ecosystems and supply oceans and larger bodies of water. Likewise, blood carries nutrients and fluids that travel throughout our bodies to keep us alive and healthy.

Water symbolizes flexibility and fluidity allowing it to dwell in the most simple of spaces. One who is like water can apply the most sublime interpretations to even the most mundane instances of everyday life.

EARTH

Singularity and simplicity. A circle represents the cycle of life, the concept of eternity, and resilience in the human spirit. It represents wholeness, and evokes the number One.

FLORA

Indigo is a plant that produces a deep blue pigment and has been used to mark lifecycle events throughout time and across cultures. It represents the cycle of life and serves as a reminder that this moment is connected to every other moment. Even as we celebrate the union of marriage, we are connected simultaneously to birth, mourning, and the entirety of human experience.
