“Blue Ocean Nazar” is a design that represents protection. A nazar is an amulet found across the Middle East. It is made up of concentric circles, usually out of glass, and is meant to ward off the evil eye (see thumbnail 3).

This print is created using a combination of archival giclée and hand painted techniques. The typeface and text are customizable. Made on Somerset cotton paper.

The piece was created for a couple who shared specific landscapes that inspired 5 sections of rings along with 2 gold rings to surround the ketubah text. The 2 golden rings signify the rings that the couple will trade during the wedding ceremony. There is a poetry in the continuous golden rings encapsulating the rest of the image.

There is significance to the number 7 as well, listed here: Seven is one of the most powerful and most commonly referenced numbers in Jewish tradition. It signifies a strong grounding in spirituality and qualities of deep thought gained through a quiet search for meaning through intellect. Seven represents the creation of the universe, good fortune, and blessing. The holiest day in the Jewish calendar, the Sabbath/day of rest, lands on the seventh day. Seven is a reminder to observe a day of rest, wherein one can accesses resources and strength within the self to overcome negativity that might come from over- working. The idea is that we must humble ourselves, and step away from our work, to appreciate a well rounded life of balance. In a world that observes a day of rest, individuals can relax and understand that letting go of control in the every day can lead to positive outcomes and personal wellbeing.
