(SUN 2.20.22, 1-3pm CST) In Person Hand Dyed Challah Cover Workshop

$136.00

NOTE: All participants must wear masks for the duration of the workshop. Location and additional details will be sent out upon purchase. 4 participant max per class. $136/ticket. All materials will be provided aside from any fabric you’d like to ice dye from home.

Join me in the studio in Albany Park (Chicago) on Sunday February 20 from 1-3pm. No experience necessary. In this workshop, you will learn three dye techniques— Batik wax resist, tub dyeing, and ice dye. All participants will make a two-panel challah cover using batik resist method and ice dye. You are also invited to bring an item of 100% cotton to ice dye (a piece of fabric, an item of clothing, etc). I will complete the piece by washing and sewing the pieces together after the workshop. All finished challah covers and ice dye items will be shipped to their owners once completed or can be picked up from the studio (within 1 month after the workshop).

BONUS: To-go goody bags of snacks will be provided by Diaspora Dinners (mini black and white cookies and rugelach).

About the techniques:
Batik is a technique of wax-resist dyeing of Javanese origin. Simple images drawn in wax can create gorgeous and perfectly imperfect designs.
Tub dyeing is the method used to dye fabric or clothing, made of natural fibers one uniform or solid color. Ice dye is Ice dye is a process that uses dry pigment and ice. The melting ice dictates where the dye ultimately lands on the fabric, leading to surprising and gorgeous results.

Pictures you see here include images of finished Batik front panels along with front and back panels of challah covers. Also, photos of ice dyed clothing made by participants along with shots of class in progress.
