Handmade in Chicago, this stoneware chamsa is dipped in an antiqued coral and snow tone glaze. It hangs on copper nylon thread beaded with Jasper and Sunstone semi-precious stones.
Sunstone Quartz is known as the Stone of Leadership, of personal power, freedom, and expanded consciousness. It is said to bring openness, benevolence and warmth, strength, mental clarity, and the willingness and ability to bestow blessings upon others.
Jasper is said to enable one to be more present in the physical body and conscious of one’s surroundings. It encourages one to celebrate moments of isolation to absorb, reflect, and connect with the spiritual connection we hold with all living things.
The chamsa is an ancient Middle Eastern amulet symbolizing the Hand of God. In all faiths it is a protective sign. It brings its owner happiness, luck, health, and good fortune. When the chamsa hand is facing up, it is a universal sign against evil. It is a powerful sign of protection, and shields us from our inner thoughts of hatred, jealousy and insecurities.
My grandmother Miriam had a beautiful wall filled with chamsas hanging in her kitchen. As a child I spent time looking at all of their different styles.Sharing a new chamsa collection through BSP is my effort to share that beautiful aesthetic.
